Surgery - area of medicine that studies acute and chronic diseases that are treated using surgical (surgical) method. Surgical treatment consists of several sequential steps: preparing a patient for surgery, anesthesia (narcosis) and of the surgery. Surgery includes: surgical approach, surgical treatment of organ, tissue repair integrity disturbed during surgery.

The nature and objectives of the operation are divided into diagnostic, curative or palliative. Diagnostic surgery allows the surgeon to deliver a more accurate diagnosis and are, in some cases, the only reliable diagnostic method, radical surgery completely eliminate the pathological process, palliative facilitate the general condition of the patient briefly.

In terms of performance distinguish the operations emergency, urgent and routine. Emergency operations require immediate execution (haemorrhage, tracheotomy, etc.). Emergency surgery may be postponed for the time to clarify the diagnosis and preparing the patient for surgery.
