South Dakota - the state located in the Midwestern United States. Named after Native American tribes Lakota and Dakota (Sioux). South Dakota became a state November 2, 1889 (together with the North Dakota). The state capital - the city of Pierre, the largest city - Sioux Falls.
The climate is continental South Dakota, there are four seasons. Winter is cold and dry, hot summers and moderately humid. Summer average maximum temperature in the state close to 32 °C, while the night temperature is close to 15 °C. The winters in most parts of the state are cold with an average January temperature of -12 °C.
Much of South Dakota (with the exception of the Black Hills) is covered with herbs and grasses and herbaceous ecosystems belongs to communities. In the valleys there are deciduous trees: poplar, elm, willow.
In 2015 the population of South Dakota was 847 859 people. In comparison with the results of the 2010 census, the population grew by 3.8%.
