Pennsylvania has an area of 119,283 square km (33th on the staff area of the country) with length of about 274 km from north to south and 455 km - from west to east. State-owned part of the coast of Lake Erie, 82 km long and 92 km long coastline along the Delaware River estuary. At the same time, the PA has no outlet to the Atlantic Ocean. It shares borders with six states: New York (in the north), New Jersey (in the east), Delaware (in the southeast), Maryland (in the south), West Virginia (in the southwest) and Ohio (in the west).

From the south-west to north-east through the territory of the state are the Appalachian Mountains. Northwest Pennsylvania takes Allegheny Plateau, is also continuing to the north - in New York and to the west - in Ohio. Plateau strongly dissected by valleys.
