The climate in most parts of the state is temperate continental, with hot and humid summers and relatively cold winters. Full-southeast Pennsylvania is characterized by a subtropical oceanic climate with milder winters.

According to the US Census Bureau of 1 July 2011, the population of Pennsylvania is 12,742,886 people; the increase is 0.32% compared to the 2010 census. The proportion of children under 5 years of age is 5.9%; persons over 65 years of age - 15.6%. Women make up 51.7% of the population.
