New Jersey - state in the northeastern United States. It got its name from the island of Jersey in the English Channel. The third in a row state, which entered the Union State. Population - 8,899,339 people (11 th place in the United States, data 2013). Ethnic groups: Italians - 17.9%, the Irish - 15.9%, African Americans - 13.6%, Germans - 12.6%, Poles - 6,9%, Jews - 5.7%. New Jersey - the first state in population density. The entire state territory belongs to the urban agglomerations of New York and Philadelphia.

Capital - the city of Trenton, the largest city - Newark. The official nickname - «Garden State».

New Jersey is located in the north-eastern United States. An area of 22,606 square km (47th place among all states in the country), of which only 19,230 square km (85.1%) of the land. Washed by the Atlantic Ocean (to the east) and Delaware Bay (south-west). It shares borders with New York (in the northeast), Pennsylvania (in the west) and Delaware (south-west). The highest point of the state is 550 m above sea level, located in the extreme north of the state, in Sussex County. The area increases in the direction from south-east to north-west.

The largest river - the Hudson and Delaware, other rivers include: Maurice Manaskuan, Mallika, Maskonetkong, Passaic, Raritan. Along the East Coast is a barrier island of Long Beach.
