Kentucky - a state in the eastern United States, is one of the so-called states of the Southeast Center. The population of 4,369,356 people (2011; 26th place among the states). Capital - Frankfort. The largest city - Louisville, the other major city - Lexington-Fayette, Owensboro, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville.

The official motto of the state - 'United We Stand, Divided We Fall' And 'Let us thank the Lord' (Latin Deo Gratiam Habeamus.). The official nickname - 'State of bluegrass'.

Kentucky has an area - 104,659 square km (37 th place among the states). (The area is calculated according to the National Statistical Service of the United States.) In the east it is bordered by the states of West Virginia and Virginia, in the south - with Tennessee, to the west - with the Missouri, in the north - with Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Most of the area falls on the mountains of the Appalachian Mountains.
